Shazi’s Persian Philosopher Blue Oljeitukhodath

Oriental Rug Egg

Russets and deep reds swirl into eye-pleasing patterns around this egg, soft greens and sunny yellows marking out particular curlicues in various places. Diamond-shaped outlines seem to be outlining various intricate areas, and on the top and bottom of the egg there are small white-grey markings among the crimson, which from afar could easily be mistaken for tassels.

Hatching Message

Oriental Rug Egg shifts and ripples softly. A piece of the shell drifts down from its apex like a delicate flower from a dogwood, and a small blue nose peeks out towards the sky from the hole. A pause, as if bolstering courage, before talons suddenly emerge from the bottom of the egg, sprouting like roots into the sand, scrabbling for purchase. Confusion reigns before the dragonet seems to get a hold on himself, and with a crack like a bolt of lighting into an old tree, the egg splits, and Persian Philosopher Blue Dragonet emerges.

Persian Philosopher Blue Dragonet

Oh, if a tree could wander and move with foot and wings, he would be Oljeitukhodath. Large sides dominate the heavy dark blue; his azure-dappled limbs are muscle-bound, all but pulsing in the contained fury of the eye of the storm, tempered by the sturdy roots of rusty talons. Lightning silver bolts along high neckridges and rolls along thunderous 'sails, the burnished sheen shimmering as if freshly inked. Delicate calligraphic tracings spiral through thin wings, seeming to tell a story of glories and thoughts from an age long past. His ponderous tail trails at length behind him, transforming what might otherwise be chubby into royal opulence.

Public Impression Pose

Persian Philosopher Blue Dragonet suddenly realizes that there is more out there to explore. There is more to do, and so with a colossal effort, hegains his bearings and unerringly strikes a course - he has seen someone who may measure up to his thoughts, to his poetry, to his desires. Brushing by a brown-haired candidate, he plants himself right in front of Shazi, whirling eyes gazing up adoringly. He is here. Will you accept him for all he is?

Private Impression Message

A deep, breathy voice enters into your mind - slowly, cautiously, all the wisdom of the ages curls through lyrical vowels as the delicate scent of jasmine emerges. « Ohh…ohh, Shazi, it is you. I have found you… I have found my fellow wanderer. » Silence, as the dragonet seems to revel in this new feeling, in these new wonders, savoring every moment. A burst of tangy aloe flickers into being. « We will explore together, Shazi. Shazi and Oljeitukhodath. We are… we are beautiful. » A shimmering mote of translucent color glimmers as the voice fades slightly.

// Shazi, I don’t think I can even describe how excited we are for you to join the ranks of riders, and for you to meet Oljeitukhodath – I hope you love him just as much as we do! From your adorable character to your true understanding of rp, we love you – stick around for a while, all right? Enjoy! //

Egg Inspiration

Oriental Rug Egg came from thinking about Persia, what I knew about Persia, and what I loved about the culture, and the vibrant colors and the idea of the soft fabric (and tassels!) just appealed to me for Oljeitukhodath, I fell in love with the idea.

Theme Inspiration

As you requested, we investigated Jalaluddin Rumi – and you probably recognized bits of him in Oljeitukhodath’s description! We tried to incorporate a Persian theme, since Rumi was Persian; as well as going off your love of thunderstorms and dislike of gems. And, the spices? Well, those are just for fun. Chubby, but regal, your Olje is a thinker, not a doer – and we wrapped all that into one lovable, occasionally moody (aren’t all philosophers?), and wonderful blue dragon.

Name Inspiration

O names are very difficult to find – I pored through Persian history for quite a while before encountering…you guessed it…Oljeitu Khoda, Persian King! He was the eighth ruler in the Ilkhanate dynasty, when Persia became Iran. He was a philosopher with great ideas on how to reshape the delicate balance of religions in that area (though his plan eventually backfired, leading to the revolutions that continue today) – and, well, not only that, but his name starts with an O, has lots of vowels, and sounds darned nifty. I pronounce it ‘Ole-height-too-codath’, but you can call him Ole Yeller if you do so desire – play with it! Long names are meant to be fun.

Spicy! Yes, your Oljeitukhodath surrounds his voice with the exotic spices of faraway lands. He is a traveler as well as a philosopher, and loves exploring, and we reflected this in his mindvoice. You may be happily having a deep, intellectual debate, when suddenly the unforgettable scent of myrrh enters your mind, and you are thrown off your argument (yes, he is not above distraction to make his point, though he is certainly not as sneaky as Viverrath). Cinnamon, jasmine, paprika – no scent is too large or too small for your thoughtful blue, and he utilizes all of them.

He is based, as you said, on an old wise man, and his tone and inflections represent that. He speaks slowly, deliberately, and with an odd rolling sound added to the end of every word. His voice is deep, husky, and oddly soothing – wonderful for those nights when you come back from a hard day of weyrling training and are at the breaking point – and all he needs to say is, « Shazi », and you are comforted. For he is comforting, no doubt about that – he is a doting grandfather, a loving mentor, a chiding teacher – all of these, and more.

Oh, if a tree could wander!
and move with foot and wings!
It would not suffer the axe blows
and not the pain of saws!
For would the sun not wander
away in every night?
How could at ev'ry morning
the world be lighted up?
And if the ocean's water
would not rise to the sky,
How would the plants be quickened
by streams and gentle rain?
The drop that left its homeland,
the sea, and then returned -
It found an oyster waiting
and grew into a pearl.
Did Yusaf not leave his father,
in grief and tears and despair?
Did he not, by such a journey,
gain kingdom and fortune wide?
Did not the Prophet travel
to far Medina, friend?
And there he found a new kingdom
and ruled a hundred lands.
You lack a foot to travel?
Then journey into yourself!
And like a mine of rubies
receive the sunbeams' print!
Out of yourself - such a journey
will lead you to your self,
It leads to transformation
of dust into pure gold!
Look! This is Love
– Poems of Rumi

This poem is what we used for his description, giving the beginning that unique touch that is so…Oljeitukhodath style. He is chubby, as you asked, but only because he is a contemplative dragon – which is fine, considering the upcoming Interval. Unlike clutchmate Puppyeth, he will not grow out of his dragonet chubby self into a sleek dragon, for he will always be the dragon that just has more of himself to love (as he will surely tell you). He will never be the best flier, but he is slow and steady – and can be indispensable in the air with his apt views. « Nyokath, if you just move slightly to your left…and Viverrath, can you move right and downwards a little? That will give us the perfect angle… » He is not a leader, but the power behind the throne, and don’t be surprised if he one day steps into an assistant wingleader role, for that is where a dragon like Oljeitukhodath would shine.

look at love
how it tangles
with the one fallen in love
look at spirit
how it fuses with earth
giving it new life
why are you so busy
with this or that or good or bad
pay attention to how things blend
why talk about all
the known and the unknown
see how the unknown merges into the known
why think separately
of this life and the next
when one is born from the last
look at your heart and tongue
one feels but deaf and dumb
the other speaks in words and signs
look at water and fire
earth and wind
enemies and friends all at once
the wolf and the lamb
the lion and the deer
far away yet together
look at the unity of this
spring and winter
manifested in the equinox
you too must mingle my friends
since the earth and the sky
are mingled just for you and me
be like sugarcane
sweet yet silent
don't get mixed up with bitter words
my beloved grows
right out of my own heart
how much more union can there be _
by Jalaluddin Rumi

This, this is Ojeitukhodath. He is love, love for you, love for the world, love for learning. He is passion, and he is desire – desire to know everything about everyone, sometimes to the point of exasperation.

« Shazi, why do you look at Iliad that way? Is Iliad your prey? »

He enjoys waxing philosophical about every little thing, be it a person, or a tiny trundlebug – he will talk about it for hours on end, and will be quite offended if you do not glean from him the deep meaning of his philosophical musings.

» So…you’re saying that this flower holds the meaning of life itself? «
« Oh, Shazi. But what /is/ life? »

Don’t worry, though, any misstep of yours in his deep philosophical musings (which he may have numerous times about the same thing, due to those draconic memories) will be quickly forgiven and forgotten. Olje will never be the type of dragon to hold grudges, or get angry – he is calm, competent, and methodical, and the only thing that will ever get a rise out of him will be if someone insults you, Shazi, the love of his life.

If that occurs, his anger will be quiet – the anger of a dammed river, not that of a volcano. He will ask questions quietly, pointedly, and fix the situation. He will not yell, but Olje has that unique talent of having a quiet tone of voice that can instill fear into the hearts of others. Never you, though, Shazi – you are the epitome of a dragonrider, to your philosophical blue, and can do no wrong. This is not to say he won’t gently push you in the direction you need to go, but he firmly believes you are there already, and just occasionally stray from the path.

Considering other dragons, Oljeitukhodath will /always/ be goading them into talking, and discussing, no matter what time of the day or not. He may find himself growing close to Viverrath, due to that curious blue’s insatiable desire for new things, which will resonate strongly with Oljeitukhodath’s own desire to explore and learn – don’t be surprised if those two are the first to escape out of the barracks, getting you and Saohlai plenty of extra chores. Oljeitukhodath would be apologetic, of course… but he won’t understand the need. His philosophy is that one needs to find things out on one's own – and that he does, to a T! He is the type of dragon who will look like he is paying attention to what you are saying, or to a lesson, and then suddenly question, « Shazi, do you think love is inherent in people? Or is it acquired? » Life with Oljeitukhodath will never be boring, that’s for sure – and you’ll find yourself indulged with all sorts of new information and tidbits that he picks up from other dragons and from eavesdropping on conversations. Though he’ll deny any such eavesdropping accusations vehemently.

“Your task is not to seek for love, but to seek all barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”
– Jalaluddin Rumi

Introspective always, he will never cease to investigate who and what he is (though he may forget his conclusions, and you may need to remind him at times) – this is Oljeitukhodath. Love him, adore him, explore with him! He is here for you always.

Oh Beloved,
take me.
Liberate my soul.
Fill me with your love and
release me from the two worlds.
If I set my heart on anything but you
let fire burn me from inside.
Oh Beloved,
take away what I want.
Take away what I do.
Take away what I need.
Take away everything
that takes me from you. _
- Jalaluddin Rumi

Oljeitukhodath is an old soul in a young body, but he is passionate, and occasionally has the tendency to love the idea of love more than love itself, falling into what he terms love with every green he wins a flight with, before crashing to ground and realizing…love is not here. And it will be up to you, Shazi, to comfort and console him, for while his passion burns, it will burn hot and fast. There may eventually be that one green, however… that one green who will capture his heart and his passion, and become another flame in his life – though you will always come first, Shazi, and his passions are easily guided by you; if you dislike the rider on a certain green, Oljeitukhodath will investigate the meanings and reasons, but he will keep himself apart.

But flights… oh, flights. He will bombard the flying green with sweet sayings and words, inventing verse on the spot to compliment every feature on her body and of herself that he can think of, sometimes verging on the odd.

« Nyokath, your underbelly is the underbelly of a river, beautiful and sweet in its flow, never ending in its picturesque loveliness. »

As mentioned before, he is a passionate dragon, and will completely give himself up to the green in question, putting her needs before his own. He will also be the type of dragon who will stick around on that green’s ledge for a few days, catering to her every desire before realizing that, perhaps, love is not this, but something else; and will move on, always in a gentlemanly fashion, however. Oljeitukhodath never sets out to offend someone, and avoids it like the plague. He may never be as canny as Nyokath, but he is diplomatic and delicate in his phrasing, and will try to avoid leaving a broken heart behind.

This, this is your Oljeitukhodath. He of the tongue-twister name, of the contemplative nature, of the passions of youth. He is yours, for now and for always, and above all else, he is Shazi’s dragon. This Inspiration is a guide, nothing more, so feel free to take bits and pieces of it, all of it, none of it, add to it, play with it – do with it what you will! At the end of the day, he is yours – and we’re so excited to have the two of you, however you choose to play him. Congratulations! Wind beneath your wings.
